Illinois Reception at Midyear a Big Hit - Grab a Plate Quickly; the Food Goes Fast!

The 2010 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting is in the record books, and this year’s Illinois Reception was a popular meeting spot! The estimated 300 or so attendees polished off most of the food in under 60 minutes, so if you didn’t grab a plate and belly up to the table early, you might have been out of luck. However, most attendees came to see who was in Anaheim that they might know. They came to network, catch up with old friends and maybe meet a couple new ones in the process.

This year’s Illinois Reception was graciously sponsored by the four Illinois-based colleges of pharmacy with enrolled students: UIC, Midwestern, SIUE and Chicago State, in addition to ICHP. The colleges and ICHP co-sponsor this event to give all current, former and future practitioners a chance to meet in one room to visit and refresh. This year’s reception was an overwhelming success.

The evening’s activities were limited to the introduction of the Deans of the sponsoring institutions and ICHP President Carrie Sincak’s presentation of $250 award checks to each of the respective colleges’ Clinical Skills Competition winners. With over 300 guests, that’s all of the activities we could pack in between the great conversations! The award checks were presented to the two student teams in recognition of these students’ accomplishments to make it to the national level of competition where they represented their schools and the state. We hope that next year one of the Illinois teams will bring home a championship or at least a top ten finish. This year’s competitors were:
  • UIC - Jen Thompson and Tommy Chiampas
  • MWU- Allison Wille and Anna Bogdanowicz
  • SIUE- Lacey Gamblin and Krista Brown
  • CSU - Chintan Brahmbhatt and Fidah Othman
Congratulations to all the competitors!

Next year’s Midyear is back in New Orleans for the first time since prior to Hurricane Katrina. I know there will be an Illinois Reception, and I look forward to seeing many of you there again!
