Call for Posters

December 15, 2010

Are you working on a project that others could learn from?

Please consider sharing the outcomes with your colleagues at the poster session during the ICHP Spring Meeting on April 15-16, 2011. This is a great opportunity to share innovative ideas with others and learn about trends in Illinois health-system pharmacies. All ICHP members are eligible to submit abstracts to be considered for presentation at the Spring Meeting.

Members please log in and then click here to submit your abstract.

ICHP POSTER CATEGORIES

The following are the categories for submission:

Original Presentation: To be considered for acceptance, papers must describe original research in pharmacotherapeutics, clinical pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, practice innovations in organized health-care settings, administrative practice or cost analysis of pharmaceutical services. Papers must neither have been published in abstract or complete form or have been presented elsewhere prior to presentation at the Spring Meeting.

Original research that does not yet have results and conclusions available may be submitted as research-in-progress. Those abstracts submitted as research-in-progress are expected to have results and conclusions available for poster presentation at the Spring Meeting.

Encore Presentation: Research may have been presented elsewhere or published in abstract or complete form only prior to presentation at the Spring Meeting. To be considered for acceptance, papers must describe research in pharmacotherapeutics, clinical pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, practice innovations in organized health-care settings, administrative practice or cost analysis of pharmaceutical services. Posters or papers presented before January 1, 2010 are not eligible. Full results and conclusions must have been presented/published previously to qualify as an encore presentation. Those projects previously presented/published without results and conclusions should be submitted as an original poster.

Student Presentation: Only original material will be considered. Any material that has already been presented should be entered as an encore presentation. The person primarily responsible for the work must be a current student enrolled in an Illinois School of Pharmacy.

Original research that does not yet have results and conclusions available may be submitted as research-in-progress. Those abstracts submitted as research-in-progress are expected to have results and conclusions available for poster presentation at the Spring Meeting.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

All Illinois health-system pharmacy practitioners, including pharmacists, residents, technicians, and students are invited to submit projects for consideration. The submitting author must be a current ICHP member. If a student is listed as the submitting author for an original presentation, the poster will be eligible for the student award.

At least one author on each abstract is expected to be present at the poster during the poster exhibit session at the Spring Meeting. They must be registered for the Spring Meeting.

SUBMISSION OF POSTERS

Members wishing to submit a poster should use the online submission form. The deadline for submissions is February 2, 2011. Please direct any questions to Trish Wegner at TrishW@ichpnet.org.

BODY OF ABSTRACT

Type double-spaced on separate sheet. Do not exceed 250 words. Do not include tables and figures. Organize abstracts in the research category under the following headings: Purpose, Methods, Summary of Results, and Conclusions. Presentations submitted as research-in-progress can omit the headings of Summary of Results and Conclusions .

REVIEW OF SUBMISSIONS

All submissions from eligible authors received by the designated deadline will be reviewed anonymously by the Educational Affairs Division Poster Review Committee for their acceptability for presentation. Submissions will be reviewed for their originality and applicability to health-system pharmacy and scored on relevance/originality, objectives, methods, results and conclusions/implications. The abstract scoring sheet is available here. Clinical case reports are encouraged. However, literature reviews are not acceptable.

In order for an original or encore submission to be accepted for poster presentation, a minimum score of 5 on the abstract scoring sheet is required. Original research submitted as research in progress requires a minimum score of only 3, as results and conclusions/implications will not be scored. Two blinded reviewers must score the abstracts at the minimum required score in order for it to be accepted for poster presentation at the Spring Meeting. In the case of a split decision between the 2 blinded reviewers, a 3rd impartial judge (blinded to the initial 2 scores and that there was a split decision on the review) will review and score the abstract and the abstract will be accepted if the minimum required score is given.

Although all posters received by the deadline will be reviewed on their merits, in some instances, due to space limitations, only a limited number of posters will be accepted for presentation at the meeting. For this reason, authors of poster submissions are encouraged to submit their entries early since, under these circumstances, posters will be accepted for presentation on a “first come, first served” basis.

All submitting authors will be notified of the acceptance of their poster via e-mail. All abstract submissions that are accepted for poster presentation will be entered into the poster competition. Authors whose posters are rejected will be provided with a detailed explanation of the committee’s reason(s) for their decision.

AWARDS

The original poster winner’s department will receive one free registration to either the Annual or Spring meeting within a rolling one year period and a plaque and the encore poster winner will receive a plaque. The student poster winner’s college's ICHP student chapter will receive a free meeting registration for one student to attend either the next Annual Meeting or next Spring Meeting and a plaque. Posters will be judged at the Spring Meeting on April 15-16, 2011, during which time the winners will be announced.
