Clinical Staff Pharmacist - Inpatient Pharmacy Department
We’re seeking passionate candidates to work in our Central Pharmacy and the Tower 8 Pharmacy Satellite, supervising and directing technicians to ensure an efficient workflow. During your night shifts, you’ll oversee drug distribution, Epic order review and verification, and the coordination of timely medication delivery to all nursing units. In doing so, you’ll exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of all workflow for central pharmacy and 8 Tower Pharmacy Satellite, including, but not limited to, oral and IV first doses, central pharmacy carousel, chemotherapy, and operating room requests
  • Evaluate and verify Epic physicians’ orders for therapeutic appropriateness, proper dosing, optimal dosage form, drug interactions, allergic reactions, route and rate of administration, and therapeutic redundancy
  • Clarify physicians’ orders when necessary through direct and timely contact with prescriber or designated practitioner
  • Provide patient-specific pharmacotherapy recommendations and drug information to the medical and nursing staff at Rush University Medical Center and Rush Oak Park Hospital
  • Document clinical interventions and participate in hand-off communication between shifts
  • Supervise pharmacy technician staff involved in the preparation and delivery of medications, ensuring coordination of workflows and prioritization of medication delivery
  • Participate in UO (ADR and medication error) reporting programs
  • Implement all drug use policy and formulary decisions of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee
  • Participate in analysis of drug use, including Pyxis optimization, DUE work, and other projects which may arise in the department
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Dose Edge for chemotherapy dose checking
  • Maintain working knowledge of medical center and departmental policies and procedures
  • Participate in Code Blue and Pediatric Code Blue
  • Serve as a resource to the Pharmacy Resident on Call

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and/or Pharm D
  • 3 years of health system pharmacy experience, including previous experience in pediatrics or a desire to service this patient population, preferred
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois
  • Must possess effective verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated leadership activities or potential for developing leadership behavior
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including within the Department of Pharmacy
  • Continually support and participate in the development of the Pharmacy Department’s goals and objectives
  • Candidates must be comfortable with change that is associated with these efforts
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Must be flexible with work schedule. This position will be a 7 day on (10-hour midnight shift) and 7 days off schedule. Dependable attendance and job performance is imperative. The shift will be from 9pm ??" 7am or 9:30pm ??" 7:30am depending on shift location for that day
  • BLS/ACLS/PALS certification
