Associate Director, Clinical Services - Inpatient Pharmacy
We’re seeking natural team leaders to join our Clinical Services team as an Associate Director, where you’ll be responsible for the maintenance and quality oversight of all inpatient clinical pharmacy programs. The scope of your leadership will include responsibility for clinical pharmacist activities provided by clinical specialists, unit-based pharmacists, and residents, as well as clinical activities provided by pharmacists in distribution pharmacies. In this role, you’ll exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain drug information resources for the department and hospital as it relates to clinical pharmacy
  • Manage and coordinate appropriate clinical decision support systems and best practice alerts with IT and Medication Safety
  • Manage and update clinical resources in electronic and, as necessary, paper formats
  • Perform outcomes research documenting drug therapy quality and unmet needs for clinical pharmacy services
  • Plan performance improvement initiatives for core measures relating to medication use, Core Measures, Readmissions, Medication Reconciliation, etc.
  • Maintain oversight over the pharmacy practice model and collaborate with the medical, nursing, and discharge planning staff
  • Perform an annual evaluation and prepare a strategic plan for clinical pharmacy services
  • Maintain a leadership role in transformation of information systems, practice and facilities
  • Work with Associate Director, Operations to coordinate clinical practice changes with operational impact
  • Support residency and experiential education programs by working seamlessly with the Associate Corporate Director, Residency Training, Experiential Education, Research & Ambulatory Clinical Services by taking residents and IPPE/APPE students on rotation
  • Participate in management leadership meetings
  • Serve as a member of the Pharmacy Department Drug Shortages Committee
  • Serve as a member of the Pharmacy Operations Committee
  • Assist with the management and content of the Clinical Pharmacist meetings
  • Serve as a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, MUE Subcommittee, Medication Safety Committee and Residency Advisory Committee
  • Participate in weekend/holiday management on-call duties
  • Lead the maintenance of the pharmacist career ladder, with involvement in periodic review and reclassification of the pharmacists participating

Requirements

  • Registered Pharmacist in Illinois (or eligibility to be licensed in Illinois)
  • PharmD degree
  • PGY1 pharmacy residency
  • Hospital pharmacy experience
  • Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Board Certification required
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to demonstrate responsibility and accountability for all aspects of professional practice
  • Ability to independently problem solve, multi-task and work successfully in a fast-paced environment
  • Active participant in pharmacy professional or peer organizations
  • Must be flexible with work schedule, with dependable attendance and job performance
  • PGY2 Pharmacy Residency preferred
  • Three years of pharmacy management and/or clinical leadership experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to mentor and teach residents and students preferred
