   Dave Lamb

ICHP Champion at OSF Saint Anthony

Where did you go to pharmacy school?
Drake University

Trace your professional history since graduation: where have you trained/worked?
After graduation, I was a staff pharmacist at OSF Saint Anthony in Rockford, IL for 14 years. I then became the director of materials management at OSF Saint Anthony where I did not practice pharmacy. After 6 years in that position, I returned to pharmacy and took a staff pharmacist job at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

I then decided to become a clinical home infusion pharmacist at OSF Saint Francis Incorporated for 9 years. I then transitioned back to OSF Saint Anthony in Rockford, IL as a clinical staff pharmacist and have been practicing here for the last 6 years.

Describe your current practice setting.
The model we use at OSF Saint Anthony is to rotate through the main pharmacy and share the clinical roles.

What initially motivated you to get involved, and what benefits do you see in being active in a professional association such as ICHP?
I think I owe it to my profession to be involved professionally in the organization and to support the organization. The benefits of being involved are being able to support and advocate for the profession, opportunity for continuing education, and having a voice to express an opinion of the needs of the profession.

Is there an individual you admire or look up to, or a mentor that has influenced your career?
Mark Hoppe, Pharm.D. He is very passionate about pharmacy, extremely well informed, very willing to teach and an extraordinary teacher.  When I worked with him at Rockford Memorial, I hadn’t met anyone who was that passionate about pharmacy and I learned a great deal from him. I try to pattern my level of clinical interventions at the level he was practicing because he was so advanced.

Do you have any special interests or hobbies outside of work?
My wife and I are recreational boaters.

Do you have a favorite restaurant or food?
I enjoyed a restaurant in New Orleans, LA called Commander’s Palace. They have unique cuisine and a great dining atmosphere. I would recommend the turtle soup and bread pudding.

What is your favorite place to vacation?
Hawaii

What is the most interesting fact about yourself that few people know?
I am very professional and stoic at work, but I am fairly gregarious, relaxed and have more of a sense of humor at home.

What 3 adjectives would people use to best describe you?
Perfectionist – Determined – Resourceful
